The Health Corner
Quote of the day:
“Fit has a feeling….I want that feeling.” NavyWife Wendy
A place for women to take control of their life, body, and soul. As Milspouses, we face many different challenges and obstacles. We have been known for balancing family, work, and the military while not always putting ourselves first. We have to see that in order to be better people, we first must take care of ourselves! So here is a page dedicated to us. We want to use this page to become stronger physically, mentally, and emotionally. We want to share our stories with you in hope that you will find inspiration and know that you are not alone. So, follow us in our journey as we take our lives back, one day at a time.
Wendy’s Story:
I grew up without weight being an issue. Being very active and in high school sports I considered myself to be in great shape. In my 20’s I was an avid runner and logged almost 1000km participating in Volksmarches while living in Germany. I also had an aerobics / step instructor certification (believe it or not)! In my 30’s my weight inched up and down and up again each time gaining a little more. Life events like going through a divorce and having a baby caused my focus to shift to “survival mode”. Being a single mom for a few years, then starting a business left me putting myself last on the list of things to take care of. I set business goals regularly and have not been so good at setting fitness goals. That is why I am making this goal a priority. I have learned: Life keeps coming at you, and does not wait until you are “ready”. Getting healthy is a goal I’m excited about. It is important to me to live a long life, enjoy life to the fullest, be active with my family and have enough energy to give back to those around me. I’ve read accountability is a strong force when it comes to weight loss success, hence the reason for this public declaration and invitation for you to join me on a quest to get fit.
Update Wendy has moved her fitness blog over to a new address:

Marie’s story:
I have had some speed bumps along my road of life.
I have had pneumonia (more than a few times) and had been hospitalized, a taratoma tumor removed that was the size of a softball, and knee surgery. . .all over the last 5 years. I was a healthy child/teenager w/o any health concerns. My poor husband didn’t know what he was getting into! My health has been like a roller coaster ride. It wasn’t that these health issues were that terrible, it was that each one had long and sometimes painful recovery period. And of course all of this happened during my husbands sea command time. I am now focused to getting back into shape so that I can be stronger and avoid any future health issues. I want my life and energy back!!
So, before the pneumonia, knee surgery, and the tumor, I was at a healthy weight of 138lbs-143lbs. I never went over 150lbs. I worked out regularly and was very active. I was at my pre-pregnancy weight and had a ton of energy! Life was good!
After everything, my weight went to 188lbs! I weighed 182lbs during my ninth month of my last pregnancy. This was not a good thing. I have been able to lose over 20lbs and now weigh between 163-165. I still have another 20 to go, but I haven’t committed to that number because I want to look and feel good…not just meet a number. So, if I look and feel good at 150lbs, then that is where I’ll be. I am 5′10+ and can be anywhere between 130-170lbs and be healthy. I just know that right now, I still need more energy and I need to feel stronger. Ok, now every one know my secrets! Now I have to get my butt into gear and follow through!

I am a proud Navy wife who with another Navy wife found friendship at our local gym. We both had completed a journey of our own of each losing a tremendous amount of weight. Our friendship continued after my friend(Amy Perez) moved away and through our keeping contact via telephone we decided to put our knowledge, education and experience into helping others to become more fit and healthy! We started our Custom Online Fitness/Nutrition business (www.formerfatgirlfitness.com) and are proud to say many of our clientele are military spouses!
Kim,
This is great and we would love to link you! I hope that you can help motivate our girls on here!!
Link Us! Sounds great! Hopefully more Navy wives and moms will find that taking the time for yourself to eat healthier, and exercise will make not only deployment time more stress free, but hubby time more enjoyable too! here’s to better health and supporting one another in unlocking the butterflies we all are hiding in our own cocoons!
